SUSHI FOR JAPAN - Helping Japan Disaster Relief One Fish at a Time

A more visual way to donate.

MTA.ME

post_6170-450x305.jpg
Conductor turns the New York subway system into an interactive string instrument. Using the MTA’s actual subway schedule, the piece begins in realtime by spawning trains which departed in the last minute, then continues accelerating through a 24 hour loop. The visuals are based on Massimo Vignelli’s 1972 diagram.

Clever and beautiful.

JR | Use art to turn the world inside out @ TED

JR, a semi-anonymous French street artist, uses his camera to show the world its true face, by pasting photos of the human face across massive canvases. At TED2011, he makes his audacious TED Prize wish: to use art to turn the world inside out.

Get Your Tag On

post_6158-450x307.jpg

If you've been waiting to toss a piece up in 5 points, you best get moving. The clock might be ticking on this landmark building. Can we take pieces down like the Berlin wall?

The iconic graffiti-caked Long Island City factory known as 5Pointz has been tagged for development, likely ending its run as a street-art mecca.

Plastic Bag Monster

post_5893-450x300.jpg

The Miha Artnak
Lovka na lovce (The Tackle of the Tentacle)
November, 2010

Together with Ekologi Brez Meja (ocistimo.si), Lukatarina and Eco Vitae we collected 40.000 used plastic bags and 7.500 used plastic cups from 12 kindergartens, 21 primary schools, 4 high schools and 3 faculties from the city of Ljubljana (Slovenia) and from more than 500 people from Ljubljana.

Plastic Bag Monster from Kongresni trg spreads its plastic tentacles through the streets of Ljubljana. It symbolizes the spreading of the consumerism and waste segregation. The monster itself has adjusted to the environment and therefore survived. It is supplanting us from the food chain. It just might succeed and it’s all up to us. It is reproducing with inconceivable speed and knows no mercy. It feeds on individuals’ sloth and irresponsibility.

Conflict Kitchen

post_5899-450x338.jpg

Pittsburgh's take-out dining concept serves food from countries in conflict with the U.S. Great idea to spread cultural awareness and information --- each item is wrapped in paper printed with info stats regarding the conflict.

Adios LA

post_5875-450x388.jpg
Adios LA is a visual goodbye to the city Jon Jackson has called home for years as the artist heads east making New York his new home. Not wanting to string LA along, he has decided to firmly break it off through a graphic billboard series posted on the famous streets of his first love.
If you are in Los Angeles from the 17th of December to the 15th of January, you can use this site to give you the locations of the outdoor boards so you can drive by and see the break up in process. Bring a camera and box of tissue.

Love this idea. We need more billboards with real messages on them instead of all the advertising pollution.

The venn diagram intersection for my Fuller-Burner friends.

audible mesh

post_5762-450x284.jpg

Audible mesh is an interactive art piece programmed in Flash, which utilizes camera and audio data to create generative artwork. The software translates the camera data into a grid (a mesh) of datapoints which are positioned, overlapped, and drawn using sound input. The result is projected on a undulating surface, which is painted with matte gesso to distort the clean lines of a digital projection, to create a more painterly output.

Saville Designs for the Cemetery

post_5745-333x500.jpg

Just like it ever was --- late and very likely over-budget, but none the less fantastically beautiful: Peter Saville's last design for Factory impressario Tony Wilson.
